How verification works
LiquidCash checks who you are once, inside the app, before it gives you a deposit address. For a new account that means your BVN, then a quick face scan.
Only testers go through this today
The app is in closed testing on Android, so the steps below are what testers see. Ask by email if you would like to join them.
Ask for accessThe steps
Email, then a code
Sign up with your email address and a phone number for recovery, then enter the code we email you to show the address is yours.
Your BVN, then a face scan
One identity check: your BVN, followed by a quick face scan in the app that confirms a live person is present.
Then an address
Deposit addresses are issued only after the check passes. Nobody is handed one while their identity is still unconfirmed.
When the check cannot decide
If what comes back does not line up, such as no usable legal name or a date of birth that cannot be read, the account goes to review instead of being approved. While an account is in review no money can move on it, and a person can see it. A missing detail is never treated as a pass.
The app on your phone cannot mark you as verified. The result comes from the identity check itself.
On a new phone
Signing in to an existing account on a different phone can ask you to prove it is you again, for example with a quick face scan on that device.
What is stored, and what is not
This is what the privacy page says today. That page is marked not yet final.
- ✓Your name and date of birth, taken from the identity check, can be collected.
- ✓Your bank number can be collected.
- ✓Your BVN is passed to our payment provider and is never stored here in readable form.
The privacy page does not currently describe how face-scan images are handled. If you want to know before you verify, email liquidcash@firstflip.ng.
Questions
What do I need to verify on LiquidCash?
An email address you can receive a code at, a phone number for recovery, your BVN, and a quick face scan in the app.
Does LiquidCash store my BVN?
The privacy page says your BVN is passed to our payment provider and is never stored here in readable form.
Why do I have to verify before I get a deposit address?
Issuing an address to someone whose identity has not been established would mean holding crypto for an unknown person. So addresses are issued only after the check passes.
What happens if my check goes to review?
No money can move on the account while it is in review, and a person looks at it. A missing or unreadable detail is never counted as a pass.
